From Aileen M. Sivell.Praise and thanks to Fr. Joseph Hattie and Msgr. Vincent Foy Monsignor Vincent N. Foy (August 14 1915 - ) is a Canadian Roman Catholic cleric and theologian. He is particularly prominent as a critic of artificial contraception and what he perceives as acceptance of it by the Catholic hierarchy (particularly that in Canada, as in the (C.I., Sept. & Oct.), for nudging the bishops' conscience re their disappointing 1968 Winnipeg Statement. Thirty-five years on, it remains contentious, as well it should. Theologians, bishops and priests gravely exceeded their mandate in defying Pope Paul VI's visionary Humanae vitae, bowing before a powerful chemical contraceptive of which they knew little. This toxic Pill 'tricks' a major gland, the pituitary pituitary /pi·tu·i·tary/ (pi-too´i-tar?e) 1. hypophysial. 2. pituitary gland; see under gland. anterior pituitary adenohypophysis. , into suppressing ovulation ovulation /ovu·la·tion/ (ov?u-la´shun) the discharge of a secondary oocyte from a graafian follicle.ov´ulatory o·vu·la·tion n. The discharge of an ovum from the ovary. , throwing the reproductive "gift" into confusion and chaos. Not even inventors Rock & Pinkus foresaw their original estrogen-loaded Pill as triggering heart/stroke deaths that were quietly settled to avoid mass panic. Current low-dose pills in tandem with 'killer' abortion can and do bring future chronic miscarriages, high-risk 'preemies' and, down the road, heart-wrenching sterility from undetected, symptom-free STD's. Rejection of Humanae vitae, as Paul VI warned, debased de·base tr.v. de·based, de·bas·ing, de·bas·es To lower in character, quality, or value; degrade. See Synonyms at adulterate, corrupt, degrade. It also cursed Canada with a demographic crater that swallowed up precious millions of vital, irreplaceable babies. As the morals of its women go, so goes the nation, is a truism to which one ventures to add: 'as clerical dissent and misconduct go, so goes the Church.' Burlington, ON |
