Friends of Police force introduced to help counter terrorism: IGP.

PESHAWAR, November 03, 2009 (Balochistan Times): A high level meeting of NWFP Police Force led by IGP Malik Naveed Khan has decided to introduce Friends of Police on mobile as well as E-Tag for effectively combating militancy in the province. To fight the war against terrorists through technology system, the IGP said under this system Friends of Police will pass information to the police about the possible acts of terrorists and saboteurs or any other suspect elements. The police will pass this information to more Friends of Police and thus through networking of Friend of Police the terrorists could be brought to book. NWFP Inspector General of Police Malik Naveed Khan directed police high ups to adopt security steps with the help of community and use technology for curbing terrorism and maintaining law and order in the province. These directed were given to all DIGs Range in a meeting held at CPO which was convened to discuss law and order of the province. Adviser to Chief Minister Syed Niaz Ali Shah and all DIGs Ranges attended the meeting. The meeting thoroughly reviewed law and order of the province and the factors affecting on it. Various decisions were taken in the meeting about which police were given guidelines for implementing these in letter and spirit. In order to overcome the shortage of police it was decided that community police especially youth would be deputed along with the police on blockades and police check posts and will perform duties turn by turn with the police. It was observed that it will reduce the duty pressure on police and will help create friendly atmosphere on these points and police was directed to introduce this system at Thana level at the earliest. The IGP pointed out that the enemy of peace were out to destabilize the country and the present ongoing war against terrorists was not war of particular force but of the whole community and appealed to the general public to actively take part in the war against terrorist and submit their credentials at the concerned police stations. Likewise the IGP directed for introducing E-Tag system for checking of vehicles. Under this system stickers would be affixed on the vehicle and from 40 to 50 points would be established in Peshawar and complete data of these vehicles would be provided in computers on these points. Thorough checking would be carried out of without E-Tag vehicles on these points and this system will lead to identification of strange vehicles and thus it will help a lot in improving law and order situation. The IGP also directed the police high ups to further improve the investigation and tighten the noose around the neck of those involved in bomb blast across the province. In the meeting, the IGP appreciated the performance of Peshawar and Kohat Police. It merits mention that Peshawar Police worked out more than five bomb blast cases recently took place in Peshawar by arresting many accused including two ring leaders involved in these cases. While the Kohat Police arrested one Burhan-ud-Din who was wanted to Kohat Police in many cases of rocket firing ion Kohat city. The police chief announced cash award and commendation certificates for Kohat and Peshawar police for their outstanding performance against the terrorists. Earlier, Director of the private firm briefed the police officers about the technology system for curbing terrorist with the help of slides and charts. The participants of the meeting asked various questions about these systems.
