This activity book, designed for students and their teachers, is the first I have seen that effectively tells both the parallel and intertwined stories of two masters of Mexican art, husband and wife Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

Each chapter includes one to four hands-on activities inspired by the artists' ideas and artwork. The twenty-four activities include printmaking printmaking

, murals, self-portraits, tin art, papel picado Papel picado ("perforated paper") is the Mexican art of papercutting into elaborate designs. The designs are commonly cut from tissue paper using a guide and small chisels, creating as many as forty banners at a time. Common themes includes birds, floral designs, and skeletons.  (paper cutouts), Day of the Dead ofrendas (memorials), and many others. The well-chosen artworks complement intriguing photographs of the two, which convey a strong sense of the artists' personalities and passions. I especially enjoyed all the interesting anecdotes about the artists, such as their friendships with artists Pablo Picasso and Georgia O'Keeffe Georgia Totti O'Keeffe (November 15, 1887—March 6,1986) was an American artist. She is typically associated with the American Southwest and particularly New Mexico where she settled late in life. O'Keeffe has been a major figure in American art since the 1920s. . If you are going to have only one book about Frida and Diego, this is the one to get.
