French MOD's Flight Test Center selects Night Hawk for Interactive Pilot Training Project; new simulation application will permit training of fighter aircraft and helicopter pilots in a hostile tactical environment.FORT LAUDERDALE Fort Lauderdale (lô`dərdāl), residential, commercial, and resort city (1990 pop. 149,377), seat of Broward co., SE Fla., on the Atlantic coast; settled around a fort built (c.1837) in the Seminole War, inc. 1911. , Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1994--Harris Computer Systems Corp.'s French subsidiary has been awarded a contract to provide a Night Hawk real-time, multiprocessor computer to the Flight Test Center of the French Ministry of Defense. Night Hawk will be the host computer for simulators used in a new interactive pilot training project. The pilot training project will permit several real-time simulation applications to run simultaneously, enabling pilots of fighter aircraft fighter aircraft Aircraft designed primarily to secure control of essential airspace by destroying enemy aircraft in combat. Designed for high speed and maneuverability, they are armed with weapons capable of striking other aircraft in flight. and helicopters to interact in a hostile tactical environment. This new simulation environment will also be linked to other equipment already in place at the Centre d'Essais en Vol (the flight test center), including two Night Hawk 4800s driving the R & D RAFALE fighter aircraft simulators. A six-processor, Night Hawk 5800 was selected for this new project. The system is configured with six Ethernet network connections to link the system with external devices, such as visual systems, and SCRAMNet (Shared Common Random Access Memory Network) to ensure the flow of information between the new system and other simulators installed at the Flight Test Center. SCRAMNet is a high speed replicated shared memory (1) Using part of main memory to support a low-cost display circuit that does not have its own memory. See shared video memory. (2) The common memory in a symmetric multiprocessing system that is available to all CPUs. See SMP. 1. real-time communications system In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole. that connects dissimilar computers. "This new contract demonstrates once more the superiority of the Night Hawk real-time systems Real-time systems Computer systems in which the computer is required to perform its tasks within the time restraints of some process or simultaneously with the system it is assisting. for long-term strategic projects," declared Pierre-Francois Monet, Country Manager of Harris Systemes Electroniques S.A., the French subsidiary of Harris Computer Systems Corp. "Our Pre-Planned Product Improvement (P3I P3I Preplanned Product Improvement P3I Planning, Performance, Process & Innovative Solutions P3I Pre Planned Product Improvement ) plan will enable the Flight Test Center to update the performance and capacity of this new system over the next 10 to 15 years. At the same time, P3I will preserve all the previous projects developed on the Night Hawk computers already in place."
