Type of serial bus that allows peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, digitizers, data gloves, etc.) to be easily connected to a computer.
2.0, high speed interconnect NVIDIA's High Speed Interconnect (often abbreviated to 'HSI') chip was used in their early PCI Express graphics cards, where it acted as a bridge between the PCI Express connection to the computer and the natively AGP GPU.  and advanced power management technologies to provide an ideal platform for a variety of consumer applications, including residential gateways, IEEE[R] 802.11n access points, digital media servers, network access storage devices and printers.

The cost-effective device meets a number of critical requirements for digital home technology including piracy protection, quality of service and ease-of-use features. The processor also helps enable the creation of end devices compliant with the Digital Living Network Alliance Wikipedia is not the place for advertisement or self-advertising. The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), (formerly: Digital Home Working Group  (DLNA) standard, which makes it easy for consumers to manage, view, print and share digital content across multiple devices within the home.

"Growing worldwide demand for affordable consumer devices capable of distributing voice, video and data content requires a highly integrated processor with Gigabit Ethernet and an optimal price-to-performance ratio," said Lynelle McKay, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Digital Systems Division. "In addition to meeting cost and integration requirements, the MPC8313E processor also offers industry leading encryption and security technology."

The MPC8313E facilitates the deployment of a wide range of high-speed peripherals at an extremely affordable price point. In addition to GigE and USB2.0 w/ phy integration, the MPC8313E provides a 32-bit double data rate (DDR1/DDR2) memory controller running up to 333 MHz, a 32-bit peripheral component interconnect See PCI.

) controller, a 16-bit local bus and four direct memory access (DMA) channels. The device's integrated security engine leverages Freescale's extensive encryption technology portfolio. (The "E" in the MPC8313E product name designates on-chip encryption.)

"There is a need for increased processing performance and secure content distribution in the connected home as digital media servers, consumer network attached storage, residential gateways and related applications gain popularity," said IdaRose Sylvester, senior semiconductor analyst at IDC. "Companies that can bring their silicon expertise from carrier class network and security applications into the price-sensitive consumer space may have a competitive advantage in the market."

Powered by the latest generation of Freescale's e300 core based on Power Architecture[TM] technology, the MPC8313E processor runs at speeds up to 333MHz and delivers up to 700 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second. , enabling deployment of feature-rich applications and high performance peripherals. The device incorporates on-chip memory management units (MMUs) and 16 KB of L1 instruction and data caches.

Compatible with PowerQUICC II devices and other legacy PowerQUICC parts, the MPC8313E helps to reduce overall bill of materials The list of components that make up a system. For example, a bill of materials for a house would include the cement block, lumber, shingles, doors, windows, plumbing, electric, heating and so on. . It speeds time to market through maximum reuse of code, integration of key peripherals, the availability of cost-effective reference designs and a robust third party ecosystem of development tools and application software support.

, integrated access devices and 802.11n wireless LAN access points.

The device meets strict power regulations and supports ACPI standards. It includes power management features such as smart-wakeup functionality and exceptionally low standby power at less than 300mW.

The MPC8313E is available in a 516-pin PBGA package and is manufactured using Freescale's 90-nm process technology, enabling 1.0V core voltage and 3.3V I/O.

Design, development and validation of the MPC8313E processor and associated application software were conducted entirely at Freescale's India Design Center in Noida, India.

SC8311E derivative optimized for printing markets

Freescale also announces an optimized derivative called the SC8311, which is designed exclusively for printing and imaging markets. Based on the MPC8313, the SC8311 is a cost-effective SoC that helps manufacturers offer highly advanced, full-featured laser printers at low price points. The SC8311 features advanced low-power capabilities that help manufacturers meet emerging power regulations in European and Japanese markets.

Pricing and availability

Initial samples of MPC8313E are available now, and general samples are expected in Q1 2007. General availability is scheduled for Q2 2007. Suggested retail pricing begins at $15 for 10,000 quantities.
