Freescale Expands QUICCsupply Portfolio to Address PowerQUICC(TM) Processor Family and Communications Industry Needs; Proven Power IC Family Shrinks Board Area and Speeds Development Time for Telecom, Data and Networking Designers.

DALLAS -- Freescale Semiconductor Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. is an American semiconductor manufacturer. It was created by the divestiture of the Semiconductor Products Sector of Motorola in 2004. Freescale focuses their integrated circuit products on the automotive, embedded and communications markets.  (NYSE NYSE

(ICs) to support its industry-leading PowerQUICC(TM) communications processors.

The MC34703 integrates system power functions into a single small package, making it an all-in-one plug-and-play product for PowerQUICC III and other communications processors for telecom and networking applications.

"Freescale's QUICCsupply devices present a very interesting and significant new addition to the processor power market," said Chris Ambarian, senior analyst in power management with iSuppli Corporation. "They are flexible enough to provide many control and sequencing options when used with many other processors, while being custom-tailored to make powering Freescale's latest processor line quick and simple. It's a great product strategy."

Manufactured with Freescale's proprietary SMARTMOS(TM) process, QUICCsupply ICs include key features such as power sequencing, voltage margining, system protection, programmable output, reset and watchdog functions. The MC34703 dual output power supply IC has a 10A synchronous buck converter A buck converter is a step-down DC to DC converter. Its design is similar to the step-up boost converter, and like the boost converter it is a switched-mode power supply that uses two switches (a transistor and a diode) and an inductor and a capacitor.  with integrated high-current low-Rds(on), and a low dropout (1) On magnetic media, a bit that has lost its strength due to a surface defect or recording malfunction. If the bit is in an audio or video file, it might be detected by the error correction circuitry and either corrected or not, but if not, it is often not noticed by the human  (LDO LDO Low-Dropout (Used With Regulators)

) controller that works with a choice of external MOSFETs.

For applications ranging from telecom and network cards to industrial controllers, the MC34703's innovative integration of logic and power minimizes the need for external components, which reduces the board space required by up to 50 percent and supports switching speeds up to 400kHz.
