The office has been in existence in some form since 1626, under the Dutch colonial government of New York. , Eliot Spitzer Eliot Laurence Spitzer (born June 10 1959 ) is an American lawyer, politician and the current Governor of New York. Spitzer was elected governor in the November 2006 election. . In a consumer tip posted on the Attorney General's Web site (http://www.oag.state.ny.us/consumer/tips/computer_rebate.html), Spitzer warned fellow New Yorkers, "There is no such thing as a free lunch. Computers that are advertised as 'free,' or deeply discounted, typically require that you commit to a long-term contract for Internet service -- as long as three years. Some deals even require that you pre-pay for the entire amount in advance rather than in monthly installments, which can be as much as $800. Speed is relative. Technology is changing quite rapidly and you may find yourself tied to an agreement for Internet service that is slower or more expensive than would otherwise be available to you." Don La Vigne, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of Free-PC, Inc., had this to say about Spitzer's statements: "We are relieved to see the Attorney General reiterate re·it·er·ate tr.v. re·it·er·at·ed, re·it·er·at·ing, re·it·er·ates To say or do again or repeatedly. See Synonyms at repeat. re·it what we have been trying to point out for some time now. The free PC space has been cluttered clut·ter n. 1. A confused or disordered state or collection; a jumble: sorted through the clutter in the attic. 2. A confused noise; a clatter. v. with companies misrepresenting the term 'free' when they are actually asking for some monetary compensation. The reality is -- Free-PC is clearly a breed apart. We not only pioneered the concept of Free-PCs, we are the only company that actually provides consumers with Free-PCs at no obligation other than to provide us with some minimal personal information and to view advertising on their desktop. We require no long-term commitment from our customers and they are free to return the PC to us at any time. We appreciate and applaud Mr. Spitzer's efforts at setting the record straight about these other offers." |
