No doubt, we live in a region that embraces the bicycle. In Eugene alone, there are 30 miles of off-street paths, nearly 100 miles of on-street bicycle lanes and five bicycle-pedestrian bridges that cross the Willamette River Willamette River

With so many options, we assembled a team of local experts - including Diane Bishop, the city of Eugene's bike coordinator, and Jim Bloomer, ride director for the Greater Eugene Area Riders club - and asked them for a few of their favorite easy to moderate rides.

These routes, and many others, can be found in the Lane County Bicycle Map and the Eugene-Springfield Bicycle Map available at local bike shops.

Row River Trail

This former railway line, paved between Cottage Grove and Culp Creek, is a section of the Oakridge-Cottage Grove ride found in the Lane County Bicycle Map. Three covered bridges, several parks, scenery along Dorena Lake and the ability to park and ride smaller chunks of this path make it an excellent choice for a family ride.

McKenzie View Loop

20 miles / Easy

Cool ride on a hot day. Combines the best in Eugene-Springfield ... city views along the Willamette and pastoral settings along the McKenzie. Many stretches don't have bike lanes, but traffic is light and it's mostly flat with lots of shade. Alton Baker Park Alton Baker Park is located in Eugene, Oregon, United States, near Autzen Stadium. It features duck ponds, bicycle trails, and a dog park, and directly touches the Ferry Street Bridge. , Skinner Butte Park or Armitage State Park are good entry points.

Spencer Butte Loop

Commune with nature on a path that follows Amazon Creek from the back of the Lane Events Center to an overlook of the Meadowlark meadowlark, common North American meadow bird of the family Icteridae, also called meadow starling. Unlike other members of the family, which comprises blackbirds, grackles, orioles, and others, the meadowlark does not travel in large flocks, and it eats harmful  Prairie on Greenhill Road. Signs provide info about the wetlands - and look for the bronze plaques in the path that depict wildlife. Path begins on 15th Avenue, just west of Jefferson Street.

Ruth Bascom Riverbank Trail System

12-mile loop / Easy

Bike path heaven. You can ride for many miles, or just a couple, and never be far from Alton Baker Park, which is a great starting point for family rides along the Willamette River. The new East Bank Trail section north of Valley River Center Valley River Center is a shopping mall located in Eugene, Oregon. As the largest shopping center south of Portland and north of San Francisco, this mall comprises over 130 local and national stores and restaurants.  takes visitors through the Delta Ponds with great views of wildlife habitat.
