Any form of learning provided for adults. In the U.S. the University of Wisconsin was the first academic institution to offer such programs (1904).
 seminar Oct. 23 featuring SEC Chair Christopher Cox as the keynote speaker. The webcast will cover such topics as auditor independence, ethics and fraud.

The seminar will originate from the San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  area and will be fed via satellite to a location in the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  area. Space at these locations will be limited. For those unable to attend, the seminar will be available live via webcast.
