Free speech or inciting a riot..?WITH reference to the article BBC's Ban Challenge (News, 22.10.09) and the appearance on Question Time of BNP BNP B-type natriuretic peptide, brain natriuretic peptide Physiology A 32-residue peptide hormone produced predominantly in the ventricles, secreted in response to fluid overload–eg, CHF. See Atrial natriuretic peptide. leader Nick Griffin, while one may agree or disagree with cabinet minister Peter Hain in his attempt to stop the BBC BBC in full British Broadcasting Corp. Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927. having Mr Griffin on the panel, one has to admire him for his efforts in taking on the BBC on this contentious issue. Should the BBC be held up as a bastion for free speech and fairness across the political spectrum or were the BBC irresponsible by inciting a riot on their doorstep with more than 400 demonstrating (pictured above)? Did the BNP leader gain any more political kudos from been on Question Time? I think the BBC were unwise to put Mr Griffin on Question Time though in a society where we have a free press, I respect their right to do this. Extreme political parties need the oxygen of publicity and Nick Griffin got that from the BBC. What some people may think is ironic, on the day the extreme right wing leader was on Question Time the CWU CWU Central Washington University CWU Communication Workers Union CWU Communication Workers' Union (South Africa) CWU Church Women United CWU Crittenton Women's Union (Boston, MA) CWU Complex Work Unit were on the first day of their postal strike. Only in a free democratic society could this happen on the same day. COUNCILLOR GEORGE R DUNNING, Leader, Redcar & Cleveland Council |
