Pupils from 15 primary schools across County Durham joined Jarrowborn Cram at Chester-le-Street's Riverside Cricket Ground to take in a day of celebrating healthy living. The youngsters and the former middle-distance runner tucked into healthy school meals, got involved in a cooking demonstration and watched a drama by students from Shotton Hall School, Peterlee, on the importance good food and exercise. Over the next two years, every primary pupil in County Durham will get free school meals as part of a Government pilot scheme. The scheme involves 244 schools and will see up to 30,000 children get one hot meal a day.
