, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1995--With national health care reform all but defeated in the Congress, access to health care has never been in greater demand.

Alexian Brothers Hospital Foundation is responding to the health care needs of its community by announcing that it is expanding enrollment of its innovative well-baby care and immunization immunization: see immunity; vaccination.  program, Project Health Start(TM). Prior to today's announcement, Project Health Start provided free preventive health care for infants up to age two. Coverage of the program is now being expanded to age five in order to provide care for a greater number of children for a much longer period of time.

Project Health Start is aimed at families that earn too much money to qualify for state-funded Medi-Cal, but not enough to afford private health insurance. "These are the children who fall through the cracks," said Steve McCoid, President of Alexian Brothers Hospital Foundation. "Needless to say, we are thrilled to provide services to even more children through the age of five."

The program, formed in 1991, currently provides free access for over 150 children to regular pediatrician check-ups, visits for sicknesses and a schedule for immunization shots to protect from infectious diseases infectious diseases: see communicable diseases. .
