Free curries to get kids in to school; ATTENDANCE.


PARENTS are being offered free curries if their children turn up to school.

The scheme is designed to boost attendance levels.

But teaching unions have blasted it as "bribery bribery

Parents are entered into a draw for the free meal if their child achieves attendance of 95% or above.

Joanne Dorricott, head of Glenfield Infants in Southampton, said: "We are delighted with the way it's going because the number of persistent absentee children has decreased by more than half."

But Ron Clooney, of teaching union NASUWT NASUWT National Union of Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers (UK) , said: "If a parent doesn't send their child to school they should get a prison sentence not a curry.

"It's bribery, totally inappropriate and bordering on lunacy."

The scheme is being paid for by the restaurant.
