Free books in bid to boost boys' reading.


EVERY primary school in Merseyside is set to get 20 free books to encourage more boys to read.

The government confirmed today that all school libraries can obtain the titles, which range from Robinson Crusoe to a book of trivia.

Local authors Tom Becker, Alan Gibbons and Brian Jacques (James) Brian Jacques (born June 15, 1939) is an English author, best known for his Redwall series of novels, as well as the Tribes of Redwall and Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series.  are among the names on the list aimed at encouraging more boys to read for pleasure.

The move follows research indicating that boys' interest in reading fades after the age of 11, which has created a significant "reading gap" between UK boys and girls boys and girls
