Frederickson Power and the Bonneville Power Administration The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is a U.S. self-financed federal agency which transmits and sells wholesale electricity in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and western Montana. The BPA is part of the U.S. Department of Energy, and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.  today announced an agreement under which Frederickson Power will purchase, at a cost of US$25.1 million, a partially built 249-megawatt natural gas-fired electricity generation project in Frederickson, southeast of Tacoma, Washington.

"Completion of the Frederickson Power project will provide an alternative to existing hydro-electric power facilities that can not meet increased demand," said Westcoast Power President Jeff Meyers. "It will produce energy safely and efficiently with a preferred fuel source which supports efforts to improve local air quality and addresses climate change concerns."

The facility, formerly known as the Tenaska plant, is located near Canyon Road and 192nd Street East in the Frederickson industrial area in Pierce County Pierce County is the name of five counties in the United States:
  • Pierce County, Georgia
  • Pierce County, Nebraska
  • Pierce County, North Dakota
  • Pierce County, Washington
  • Pierce County, Wisconsin
. While plans to proceed with the project have not been finalized, the current plan calls for the electricity generating facility to begin operations in mid-2002 at an estimated cost of US$160 million.
