Fred Teicher, a man with a vision.

The genesis of The Teicher Organization is a story about a man and his vision.

Born in a Displaced Persons Camp in Germany--the son of Holocaust survivors--Fred Teicher settled in Brooklyn with his family shortly after the end of World War II.

Fred was introduced to the construction industry in the late 1960s when he joined the New York City Housing and Development Administration (HDA) as an Assistant Engineer, responsible for liaison activities between the HDA and the New York City Planning Commission for low- and moderate-income housing throughout the City. In the early 1970s, he moved on to the New York State Urban Development Corp.

"I was heavily involved in statewide planning and construction, including famed projects such as the Jacob Javits Convention Center and Roosevelt Island," Fred recalls.

"I also became fascinated with the process of providing quality housing at prices people can afford. I vowed that if I ever went out on my own, that would be the credo for anything I did."

In 1976, Fred did just that--opening up a consulting business with the UDC as his first clients.

The Teicher/UDC relationship continued and expanded for three years, with Fred a member of the team which revitalized such projects as the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem and Fordham Plaza, a 300,000-sq.-ft. complex of office and retail space in the South Bronx.

"By blending private and public funding, I was able to rapidly expand the business," Fred points out.

"The company grew to a medium-sized renovation business, working on about 1,000 units throughout the New York/New Jersey area. "We started taking on new projects and built a reputation as a comprehensive real estate development firm with a dedication to superior quality, design, and construction."

In 1980, Fred opened a satellite office in East Brunswick, where he had settled with his wife Norma seven years earlier. That office quickly became the headquarters for The Teicher Organization, which today represents a wide range of residential and commercial projects.

Fred and Norma also brought three of his sons into the business, establishing continuity for the future.

Today, Stuart serves as Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Jeremy is Executive Vice President and Ryan functions as Vice-President. In addition, daughter Melissa helps out when she is not attending college.

"It's a wonderful feeling watching our kids assume responsibility for the business," Fred says. "It provides a kind of legacy for the future that is both satisfying and meaningful."

The dedicated team of construction, engineering and marketing professionals at The Teicher Organization also play a large role in maintaining a successful enterprise built on a commitment to development excellence.

"We are all dedicated to building residential and commercial projects which are unique and diverse in product type," Fred Teicher asserts.

"Our projects are designed to provide something new to the community and/or enhance the community to make it better than it was before.

"We work to provide customers with a unique and exclusive opportunity, whether it's for housing or entertainment purposes.

"However, the ultimate goal of each project is to achieve unparallel customer satisfaction."

The Teicher Organization is currently developing projects in New Jersey and New York State. They include Meadow Winds, a residential development of single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums in Newburgh, N.Y.; and Woodland Village, an active adult community in Absecon, N.J., just outside of Atlantic City.

In addition, The Teicher Organization is the owner and operator of a luxury catering facility known as The Excelsior, a 36,000 square foot catering and banquet facility in Manalaplan, N.J. The company is also seeking appropriate developmental sites in the Poconos and elsewhere.
