Frankenmuth bolsters package line-up.

According to Frankenmuth Brewery of Frankenmuth, MI, a new five-liter can package is the second of its kind produced by the brewery. The can, which is manufactured in Germany, is filled and sealed by Frankenmuth. "A 22-oz. bottle was also added to the Old Detroit package mix because of the increasing popularity of 22-oz. bottles," said Fred Shumacher, Frankenmuth's chief operating officer.

According to Shumacher, the Old Detroit brand has increased in popularity. During the past six months, its area of distribution has been expanded to five additional states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

"Since packaging is such a key ingredient in marketing microbrewed beer," Shumacher said, "we decided to add the five-liter and 22-oz. packages, which we believe are extremely important in the development of this brand."

Randy Heine, Frankenmuth Brewery's owner and president, said that adding additional packages to the Old Detroit Brand was especially pertinent with the company's broadening of its marketing territory. "Consumer in our new marketing areas on the East Coast, West Coast and in between will have a choice of three convenient package sizes," he said. "The new packages should be in most retail stores in the coming six weeks."
