Frank Sciame Jr. elected chairman of NYBC.

Frank J. Sciame Jr., a New York City builder known for highly designed and technically sophisticated construction projects, was elected Chairman of the New York Building Congress following the organization's annual membership meeting last week.

Regarded as a builder with the vision of an architect and the eye of a constructor, his talent has contributed to his firm, F.J. Sciame Construction Co., being entrusted with the construction of some of the metropolitan area's most prestigious cultural, educational, commercial and retail facilities.

Some of his completed projects include the restoration of the Victory Theater and Central Synagogue, new educational facilities for Spence School, The Calhoun School, Lycee Francais, and The Millennium High School. In addition, Sciame also completed the unique Toys R Us flagship store in Times Square, the New York Public Library--South Court, The Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park City and the Harvard Club on 44th Street.

His firm also is in preconstruction for projects at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, a new Academic building at Cooper Union, and The Museum of Arts and Design. Current projects under construction include Sarah Lawrence Heimbold Visual Arts Center, Thurgood Marshall Academy, and the Pierpont Morgan Library.

Sciame, who succeeds Skidmore Owings & Merrill Partner Marilyn Jordan Taylor, takes over the Building Congress during a period of increased visibility for the industry but also at a time of uncertainty about the future of the City's public capital programs and private development.

As Chairman, he will help shape the organization's policies and programs and continue its distinguished history as an advocate of innovative design, responsible development and infrastructure investment.

"We are proud to be an important part of the exciting and challenging projects now underway in New York, including rebuilding the World Trade Center site and expanding the region's transportation network.

"Beyond these, the Building Congress and the companies, agencies, unions and associations that comprise its membership, consistently supports investment in the City's infrastructure, such as schools and power plants, and in projects that will help our economy grow, such as the 2012 Olympics and development of Manhattan's far West Side."

In addition to Sciame, the Building Congress approved a new slate of officers that include, as is the organization's tradition, prominent leaders in design, construction and real estate.

Vice Chairmen are: J. Max Bond Jr., partner, Davis Brody Bond, LLP; John J. Gilbert III, chief operating officer, Rudin Management Company, Inc.; Susan L. Hayes, President, Cauldwell Wingate Company, LLC; Edward J. Malloy, president, Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York; Dominick M. Servedio, chairman/CEO, STV Inc.; and Peter K. Tully, president, Tully Construction Co., Inc.

In addition, Peter A. Marchetto, president, Bovis Lend Lease LMB, Inc., was named treasurer, and Lawrence F. Graham, executive vice president, Development, Brookfield Financial Properties Corporation, was named secretary. Michael S. Zetlin, Partner, Zetlin & De Chiara, LLP, serves as the organization's general counsel.

Richard T. Anderson continues as President.
