Frank Garcia. (Transitions).


Frank Garcia, a distinguished costumer and director of the Alwin Nikolais/ Murray Louis archives, died from leukemia December 12, 2002. He was 71.

In 1960, he collaborated on the Alwin Nikolais work Totem; in 1961, he created costumes for Murray Louis's Calligraph Verb 1. calligraph - write beautifully and ornamentally
write - mark or trace on a surface; "The artist wrote Chinese characters on a big piece of white paper"; "Russian is written with the Cyrillic alphabet"
 for Martyrs. Thus began his forty-two-year collaboration with the choreographers. His costumes became integral parts of the works. Garcia also designed costumes for Hanya Holm, The Limon Dance Company, Rudolf Nureyev, the Royal Danish Ballet Royal Danish Ballet, one of the oldest major ballet companies, established at the opening of Denmark's Royal Theater in Copenhagen in 1748. The company was developed over the centuries by three great masters. , and Batsheva Dance Company The Batsheva Dance Company is a highly respected dance company based in Tel Aviv, Israel and founded by Martha Graham and Baroness Batsheva De Rothschild in 1964, after whom it was named.

Ohad Naharin has been its in house choreographer since 1990.

Garcia is survived by a niece and two grandsons.
