Frank DeLima receives 2003 Friends of Children Award.

ACEI has named Frank DeLima the recipient of the 2003 ACEI Friends of Children Award. DeLima was unable to attend the April presentation ceremony at the Annual International Conference in Phoenix, Arizonia, but sent a statement to be read at the event.

The writer and performer of the Peanut Butter and Jelly Song and Going on a Buta Hunt, Frank DeLima's jokes, skits, and Four Magic Words to Success--Reading, Studying, Laughing, and Family have been heard by children in more than 350 schools.

For 17 of 20 years, he financed the Frank DeLima School Enrichment Program with his own capital. When financial difficulties arose, sponsors came forward to keep it going. For the past two years, the amount of time it takes him to visit all 350 schools, DeLima has focused on the themes of acceptance and self-esteem. He continues to produce CDs and videotapes, appear in commercials, and perform live shows.

In his statement, DeLima said. "What started as a casual motivational visit to an elementary school on the island of Maui has blossomed into a program in which I visit every public and private elementary and middle school in the state of Hawaii. It is a program that I find extremely rewarding and satisfying. It gives me great pleasure to accept this award on behalf of the Frank DeLima Student Enrichment Program and the children of Hawaii."

The Friends of Children Award honors a non-ACEI member who works outside the field of education, whose work has had significant impact on the quality of life of children, and who demonstrates a commitment to children on a national or international level.
