Leisure: "Hiking, golf, writing, reading, biking, walking, investing, time with family, road trips with my wife, community events. I like to be active and love to learn -- anything."

Time Management: "Brutally delegate. Stay strategic. Keep white space on your calendar. Develop successors and leaders. Purge emails daily. Stay focused on the meaningful objectives. The hardest thing is to say 'no' to well-meaning people, especially in our community."

Stress Management: "Take deep breaths. Laugh a lot. Create a fun environment. Exercise every day."

Favorite book: An impossible question! The Tales of the Alhambra would be my choice. The noted author is Washington Irving, who was an early U.S. Ambassador to Spain. He spent many months at a Moorish Palace in Granada, Spain and entertains the reader with fact and fantasy. My wife and I visited the Alhambra and it is indeed a magical place. I particularly like the philosophy of the Moors in their buildings, "plain on the outside, beautiful on the inside."

Best/Worst Jobs: Worst job was installing insulation in houses in hot, humid West Texas, which convinced me to excel in my studies! Best is my current job. I'm involved in an important mission, working with outstanding, values-based people and have diverse and broad responsibilities."

Favorite Deal: "Restructuring a contract at a nuclear weapons plant. We inculcated a project management focus, accelerated our planned milestones, saved the government millions of dollars and earned record fees. A win-win all the way around."

Other comments: "This is a time when leadership is critical to our country and to our world. The decisions we make today will profoundly affect generations to come. Global security, democracy, reliable energy sources, economic prosperity and fairness, and basic human kindness demand the best from us. Each of us must think about the legacy our footprints will leave behind."
