Foxwoods Slots Yield More Winners This Month; Two from Massachusetts Win Nice Jackpots.
MASHANTUCKET, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 2000
The busy slot machines at Foxwoods Resort Casino made two more people from the Bay State very happy this month. Once again, the Betty Boop and Wheel Winner slots coughed up several hundred thousand dollars for the lucky pair.
A lady who prefers to be known only as "Red Headed Rita from Worcester" won $187,758.00 in the wee hours of the morning when the wheels on the Betty Boop Roarin' 20s one-dollar machine lined up on April 1. No kidding. "I've been coming to Foxwoods for 8 years. I've won some and lost some, but always had a great time," she said. The 67-year-old grandmother couldn't believe it. "I'm not a screamer. I was real calm." As a home companion for the elderly, she plans to have a little more fun with her winnings when she goes out for entertainment.
Another April winner was Mr. Ennedi Moronta of Jamaica Plain, Mass., who won more than a quarter million dollars. He was on his way to New York when he decided to stop at Foxwoods on the way. Hitting the lucky sevens on the IGT Wheel Winner twenty-five cents slots, Moranta won $270,423.00 after playing a short time. With his winnings, Moranta slipped away to take a well-deserved 21-day vacation, according to a family member.
Foxwoods introduced the Betty Boop progressive slots by Ballys in October 1999, featuring quarter and dollar games on 63 machines throughout the property. Wheel Winner, a system of progressive slot machines developed by Foxwoods and IGT, features $.25, $.50, $1 and $5 games. It takes three coins and a combination of three "Wheel Winner" symbols to win the progressive jackpot, which starts at $1 million on dollar machines and $250,000 on quarter machines.
