The Helena's design is a bold reinvention of the conventional residential high-rise, boasting floor to ceiling glass, wrap-around windows and sleek metal panels. The AIA initiated the invitation for design submissions in order to demonstrate the diversity of green practices in excellent, affordable housing design. The Helena was selected for its green benefits of living made available for both market rate and affordable housing units. Most other sustainable apartment buildings do not reserve units for affordable housing.
