Business Editors

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 2000

Sondra Fowler, manager of corporate public affairs for Conoco Inc., will discuss how to achieve a successful career through hard work and commitment during an International Association of Business Communicators/Houston membership luncheon and vendor showcase on April 27 at the Renaissance Hotel, Greenway Plaza, Houston.

During the luncheon, which also launches the chapter's membership drive, Fowler will speak about her career strategies, successes and mistakes, and give tips on good career decisions for all levels of communicators.

The vendor showcase will provide companies with an opportunity to increase their visibility among Houston's leading communications professionals. Last year's membership meeting attracted nearly 120 visitors.

Fowler, who has several years journalism and public relations experience, has received numerous awards, including the Women in Communication's Headliner Award for communication excellence, news writing awards from the Associated Press, and three national film awards for a Conoco documentary on Alaskan oil. She was named one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in PR" by PR Week in 1999, and a Woman of Excellence by the Federation of Houston Professional Women. Fowler has held her current position since 1996. Under her leadership, Conoco's corporate public affairs group won national recognition for its program about Conoco's re-entry to the New York Stock Exchange.

Luncheon fees are $24 for IABC/Houston members, $29 for guests and $14 for students. The vendor showcase fee, lunch not included, is $75 for members and $100 for guests.
