Fourth Meeting of the World Semiconductor Council to be Held in Korea On April 28, 2000.

) will host the 2000 meeting of the World Semiconductor Council (WSC) in Korea. The WSC is an international forum for semiconductor executives.

The meeting will be attended by executives from semiconductor companies based in United States, Korea, Europe, Japan, and Taiwan. Their discussions will focus on trade and environmental issues, electronic commerce, and new areas for international cooperation.

) WSC delegation will be led by Wilfred Corrigan, Chairman of the Board and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Mr. Corrigan will be accompanied by Steve Appleton, Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Micron Technology, Inc, and John Dickson, CEO of Microelectronics and Communications Technologies at Lucent Technologies.

The WSC is comprised of the regional semiconductor trade associations: the U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA), the European Electronic Component Manufacturers Association (EECA EECA Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (New Zealand)

), the Electronic Industries Association of Japan Founded in 1948, the Electronic Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ) was one of two Japanese electronics trade organizations that were merged into the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA).  (EIAJ EIAJ Electronic Industries Association of Japan

), and the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA).

The WSC was established in August 1996 by EIAJ and SIA under a bilateral industry agreement signed in Vancouver, Canada. EECA and KSIA joined in April 1997, and the TSIA recently joined the WSC in 1999. Previous WSC meetings were hosted by EIAJ in Hawaii in 1997, SIA in Carlsbad, California in 1998, and EECA in Fuiggi, Italy in 1999.

The WSC plans to issue a joint statement at a press briefing concluding the meeting. Media representatives who wish to attend should contact KSIA.
