Four officers promoted to the rank of colonel.


In what may be a first for the command, four officers of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command were promoted simultaneously to colonel in a March 16 ceremony held at the command's Operations Center The facility or location on an installation, base, or facility used by the commander to command, control, and coordinate all crisis activities. See also base defense operations center; command center.  at Fort Eustis Fort Eustis is a United States Army facility located in Newport News, Virginia.

The post is the home to the Army Transportation Corps, and also home to the U.S. Army Aviation Logistics School.

"We thought it would be a historical event to have all four of us promoted on the same day." Rossi said. "It was very important to me to be able to participate in the ceremony with the other colonels, who I like and respect."

Acting deputy commander Brig. Gen. Maynard "Sandy" Sanders presided at the ceremony.

 are the real winners today, for these newly promoted colonels bring a wealth of seasoned leadership and field experience with them," he said. "These selectees are certainly at the top of their game, and it's great to be surrounded by such talent."

Rossi was unsure she would be included in the ceremony because her promotion orders arrived only hours before the ceremony.

"My promotion was dated in February, but without the actual orders, I could not schedule the ceremony," she said. "I was on the edge of my seat every day waiting to hear if the orders had arrived."

Babul, a Drilling Individual Mobilization Augmentee, has been with the command since 1983.

"I know a lot of people in SDDC, and I consider this a home away from home," he said. "It was nice to share this occasion with the people I've known for years."

Babul serves as the single port manager chief of the 598th Transportation Group, Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Casazza, the deputy commander of the 599th Transportation Group, Schofield Barracks bar·rack 1
