Fountain Fresh signs contract with Canada's largest grocery retailer.

Ltd., one of the 11 wholesale/retail subsidiaries of Loblaws Company Ltd. of Toronto.

Loblaws is Canada's largest food wholesale/retail company serving more than 4,750 stores.

Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Fountain Fresh developed and marketed in-store, self-serve soft drink and pure drinking water beverage centers in the mid-1990s. , said the first stage of the relationship with National Grocers will be a five-beverage-dispenser market test in the Ottawa, Canada market area.

The first of these five dispensers will be installed the week of May 22 in Ottawa, Brian Birmingham, president of Fountain Fresh Canada, said, with the other four to follow shortly thereafter. Enthusiastic consumer acceptance of the Fountain Fresh dispensers is evidenced by the more than 25 percent beverage market share that 22 such systems have captured over the past eight months in metro Salt Lake City supermarkets, with more than 60 percent of those sales being refills.

Cutts maintains that the BEVERAGE CENTER 2000 dispenser attracts and anchors consumers to the supermarkets where they are installed. The 36 percent increase in overall beverage category sales in those 22 stores gives credence to his claim.
