Foundrymen see slight dip in salaries in 2002: this confidential AFS salary survey shows that foundry base salaries in 2002 dropped 0.5% and total compensation was down 0.6%.


The results of the AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.

In looking at the salary survey by job classification, junior salesmen (with five years of experience or less) enjoyed the biggest increase as their base salaries rose 19.4%.

Top manufacturing executives and production managers also saw a healthy increase of 16.2%, as did executive vice presidents (15%) and personnel managers (15.2%).

Along with salaries, total compensation was up for junior salesmen (19.8%), senior salesmen (18.2%) and top manufacturing executives (18%).

Supervisors took the biggest hit in the latest study as core supervisors saw their base salary, fall 2.4%. Cleaning supervisors were down 2.2% and molding molding, in architecture, furniture, and decorative objects, a surface or group of surfaces of projecting or receding contours. A molding may serve as a defining element, terminating a unit or an entire composition (e.g.  supervisors dropped 0.3%.

Top marketing executives saw their total compensation fall by 2.5%. Core supervisors were down 1.5% and top engineering executives were down 0.3%.

Overall, the weighted average for base salaries for all classifications was down to $64,000. That dropped from $64,300 a year ago.

The weighted average for total compensation was at $70,800, down from $71,300 in 2001.
