Founders and the pledge. (Letters to the Editor).I really enjoyed the article on James Madison ("Father of the Constitution" by Thomas R. Eddlem, July 1st issue). It made me wonder. With all the furor furor /fu·ror/ (fu´ror) fury; rage. furor epilep´ticus an attack of intense anger occurring in epilepsy. over the 9th Circuit Court declaring the Pledge of Allegiance Pledge of Allegiance, in full, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, oath that proclaims loyalty to the United States. and its national symbol. unconstitutional unconstitutional adj. referring to a statute, governmental conduct, court decision or private contract (such as a covenant which purports to limit transfer of real property only to Caucasians) which violate one or more provisions of the U. S. Constitution. because of the words "under God," would Madison or Jefferson or any of the Founding Fathers have supported a pledge of allegiance to the federal government? Or is it really more accurate to say that we pledge allegiance to the flag and the republic for which it stands? What would our Founding Fathers think of the Pledge of Allegiance?
