Mark Babineaux, JD, CHt presented a free stop smoking hypnosis seminar on January 4, 2006 at 6pm at Our Lady of Lourdes The apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes began when Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year old peasant girl from Lourdes, when questioned by her mother, admitted that she had seen a "lady" in the cave of Massabielle, about a mile from the town, on 11 February, 1858, while she was gathering Regional Medical Center with a suggested donation to the Miles Perret Center, Cancer Services of Acadiana. The two hour event, which was sponsored by the Miles Perret Center to expand their service message to cancer prevention and increase public awareness of the availability and effectiveness of hypnosis, filled the 155 available seats, generated a waiting list of 29 people, and collected $4045 in donations for the cancer services center. The meeting room was filled with Papadakis's clients, students and people well versed in the latest developments in alternative health. Most of them swore by hypnotherapy, even though some of their stories sounded otherworldly. Sheila Harvey went to Papadakis when she had difficulty sleeping after her granddaughter's suicide more than a year ago. She said her mind kept racing with questions about life and death. During her fourth session, Harvey said she had a life-changing experience when she "connected right to the light." "It looked like the aurora borealis," she said. "I now know there is no death; there is just pure love." Others told of similar life traumas, but during the demonstration Papadakis kept things light. Tania

Papadakis knelt beside her, took her hand and shook it lightly. "Look into my eyes," Papadakis said, sounding like Svengali's mother. "I'm going to count to 10, and you're going to press my arm harder. Your eyes are becoming drowsy, and you relax," she continued, slowing down at the key words "harder" and "drowsy." Hreczko's chest and shoulders rose and fell as her breathing became heavier. Her head flopped forward, chin to her chest. "Deeper and deeper, all the way down," Papadakis said. Papadakis asked participants to think of a goal they wanted to achieve by the end of the year, then she put them through the same paces as Hreczko.
