Foundations: the Scholastic Art Award: "as I matured, I began to see that the world I saw through my eyes was not necessarily the same as how those around me saw it.".


The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers tracks the creative development of more than a quarter of a million teenagers each year. The process begins across the country as young artists and writers commit to the next step on their creative journeys and participate in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program.

This year, School Arts features works by students who have received recognition from the Scholastic Art Awards. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a national program that offers early recognition of creative teenagers and scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors, named more than 1,448 talented young artists and writers from across the country as this year's national award recipients. Since Scholastic founded the program in 1923, more than 13 million of America's most talented junior-high and high-school graduates (grades seven to twelve have participated in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards bring outstanding visual art and writing created by teenagers to a national audience by showcasing their remarkable work and encourage their creative aspirations and career development.
