Found art in NYC.

In the heart of New York City New York City: see New York, city.
New York City

City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
there's an old building with a lot of new life. This large red brick building nestled behind big shade trees is the Children's Museum of Manhattan The Children’s Museum of Manhattan was founded, under the name GAME (Growth Through Art and Museum Education), in 1973. With New York City in a deep fiscal crisis, and school art, music, and cultural programs eliminated, a loosely organized, highly creative group of artists  (CMOM CMOM Capacity Management, Operations, and Maintenance

), and kids come here to check out all the great art.

What can you see at CMOM? Well, these days there's an exhibit called Art Inside Out, featuring three contemporary artists. Art is turned inside out by allowing kids to get in and around the display, making changes and becoming artists for the day.

Fred Wilson Fred Wilson could refer to:
  • Fred Wilson (artist) -- African American conceptual artist
  • Fred Wilson (politician) -- Canadian politician
  • Fred Wilson (financier) -- New York based venture capitalist
(born in 1964 in New York City) is one of the artists in this exhibit. He wants you to imagine the stories that inanimate objects Inanimate Objects

might tell. When you visit Wilson's portion of the exhibit you are encouraged to get near the statues and ask yourself: "What would you say if you were that statue? How would you feel?"

Sometimes, Wilson creates statues that tell his own story--a self-portrait. To create these statues, Wilson combines small objects from other museums with figurines he finds at antique shops and flea markets.

You can create your own stories by rearranging parts of these animal and human figures using wooden pegs--by experimenting you can discover all kinds of unusual combinations!

Another way kids create art at CMOM is by rearranging photographs of people, then photographing the results. The idea is to think about how an object's relative size or distance from other objects affects how it is perceived. If an object is big, it may seem strong or even overpowering o·ver·pow·er·ing

When you are able to change an art display, you discover that there is more than one way to create good art. Perfection is elusive, and mistakes are impossible.
