Foulke takes office as new head of OSHA in April.


On April 3, Edwin G. Foulke Jr. took office as the assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health, heading the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. agency established (1970) in the Dept. of Labor (see Labor, United States Department of) to develop and enforce regulations for the safety and health of workers in businesses that are engaged in interstate  (OSHA OSHA

). Foulke was nominated for the post by President George W. Bush in September and confirmed by unanimous consent of the Senate in March. Foulke's appointment was approved as part of a block of nominations put forward for several individuals to different federal positions.
