TAMPA, Fla. -- Fortress Technologies, a leader in secure wireless networking, today announced that it has joined the Wi-Fi Alliance to further the advancement of wireless networking interoperability. Fortress has demonstrated a long history of meeting important government standards - including the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) FIPS 140-2 and Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) - and now adds those promoted by the Wi-Fi Alliance, such as the WPA2(TM) (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security program. Based on the IEEE 802.11i standard, WPA2 provides security by employing the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm combined with 802.1x-based authentication. The Wi-Fi Alliance, a global, non-profit industry association, was created to promote and certify interoperability of products and services based on 802.11 technology.
