Moved to Washington, D.C., in 1987 to cover the U.S. Supreme Court and legal issues for The Washington Times. Switched to the Chicago Tribune's Washington bureau in 1989 as national legal affairs correspondent. Returned to the Star-Telegram as a senior reporter in 1994.
