Fort Lewis soldier arrested in slayings of 2 other US soldiers

Authorities have arrested a U.S. soldier suspected of killing a military couple and abducting their 7-month-old girl, sheriff's deputies said.

The 22-year-old woman was booked into the county jail Sunday night for investigation of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of kidnapping, Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The woman is an active-duty soldier with I Corps at the Fort Lewis Army base south of Tacoma and a member of the honor guard, Troyer said.

Acting on information from the Army, deputies went to a home south of Tacoma on Sunday and found a man and a woman dead, Troyer said.

The county Medical Examiner's Office did not release the names of the victims — a 25-year-old man and 27-year-old woman. Both were in the Army, but their relationship to the arrested woman was not immediately known.

The victims appeared to have died from gunshot wounds inflicted Saturday, deputies said.

The couple's baby, found unharmed with the Fort Lewis soldier, was placed in the care of the state's Child Protective Services agency, authorities said.
