Based on the Digital Video Broadcasting/Digital Audio Video Council (DVB/DAVIC) standard, the Cisco INA2320 and CAR100 create a complete cable modem system featuring interoperable headend, router and cable modem.

"Forsyningen Esbjerg is committed to standards-compliance and Cisco was an easy choice because they offered the most complete DVB/DAVIC-based solution," said Preben Thomsen, chief technology officer for Forsyningen Esbjerg. "Cisco's DVB/DAVIC solution has proven to be efficient and scalable, allowing our customers to take advantage of high-speed Internet access for applications such as streaming audio and video."

Since upgrading their system with Cisco's solution, Forsyningen Esbjerg has scaled their network to accommodate a growing number of new users. Most users are taking advantage of the high bandwidth and flat access rates to stream audio and video from the Internet.

With Cisco's DVB/DAVIC solution, Forsyningen Esbjerg was able to upgrade its network in a single step instead of multiple phases, a move that allowed them to service the entire municipality of Esbjerg and offer all services to all subscribers. In the future, Forsyningen Esbjerg plans to add services such as interactive television and voice-over-IP.

"Forsyningen Esbjerg has shown remarkable foresight in deploying standards-based broadband networks," said Carson Chen, vice president and general manager of Cisco's cable business unit. "Forsyningen Esbjerg's New World broadband service offering reflects the growing importance of providing customers with multiple services over multiple devices."
