Cardiff hairdresser Nik Petrakis, 23, has offered hope to struggling young people by speaking out about how he turned his prospects around through hard work after leaving school with no qualifications. Nik, who is now a senior hair stylist, said he went "off the rails" when his father died during his first year of high school. He said: "It was a very traumatic time in my life and I was being rebellious. "I have always wanted to be a hairdresser and it was agreed with the school that it was in my best interests that I was put on full-time vocational training. "I had no interest at all in school but when anything to do with hairdressing hairdressing, arranging of the hair for decorative, ceremonial, or symbolic reasons. Primitive men plastered their hair with clay and tied trophies and badges into it to represent their feats and qualities. was mentioned I absorbed the information quickly because I had a passion for it." Aged 14, Nik found a work experience placement with Mirrage hairdressing salon in Cardiff. He secured an extended work placement through Bridgend-based I-SA Training and went on to achieve NVQ NVQ n abbr (BRIT) (= national vocational qualification) → título de formación profesional NVQ n abbr (= National Vocational Qualification) → levels one and two in hairdressing. He started his Foundation Modern Apprenticeship apprenticeship, system of learning a craft or trade from one who is engaged in it and of paying for the instruction by a given number of years of work. The practice was known in ancient Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, as well as in modern Europe and to some extent two years later and gained experience by working in various Cardiff salons before moving to London aged 19 to train with Steiner Cruise Liners. After basing himself in Long Beach, Florida, for a year, Nik returned to Cardiff. He was appointed as manager of the Health and Beauty Cafe, Roath, before securing a post as a senior stylist nearby at The Vanilla vanilla, a plant of the genus Vanilla of the family Orchidaceae (orchid family). Vines of hot, damp climates, most are indigenous to Central and South America, especially Mexico, but are now cultivated in other tropical regions. Rooms. With a decade of work experience now under his belt, Nik is looking forward to further developing his career by undertaking an A1 award with I-SA Training, to enable him to assess NVQ candidates. Nik, who eventually wants to train hair stylists, said: "Without the work placement when I left school, I don't know where I would be today - possibly signing on at the job centre." He added: "I personally believe that vocational training is the best way for young people to learn about a job. It has really worked for me."
