Former New Jersey energy official to direct business and corporate development at GPU.

Scott A. Weiner, 45 years old, NJDEPE NJDEPE New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Energy  commissioner from 1991 to 1993, was named vice president for corporate development at GPU Service Corporation, a GPU subsidiary. The appointment will be effective Feb. 1.

James R. Leva, chairman, president and chief executive officer of GPU, said, "Scott Weiner will help the GPU companies identify and develop a wide range of suitable growth opportunities in energy and energy-related services that will enhance shareholder value, increase customer satisfaction and stimulate management and cultural change throughout GPU.

"Scott's demonstrated leadership nationally, with the state of New Jersey, and in the private sector will be a significant addition to GPU as we continue to enhance our competitive position in today's rapidly changing energy markets, including renewable energy and energy efficiency.

"He will provide GPU with insight and guidance in selecting and developing the right emerging growth opportunities that will be crucial to GPU's success as competition in the electric utility industry becomes more intense," Leva said.

In his new position at GPU, Weiner will report directly to Leva.

A consultant and attorney specializing in the commercialization of energy and environmental technology, Weiner served as chief counsel to former New Jersey Governor Jim Florio in 1993.

From 1990 to 1991, he was president of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) is a regulatory authority in New Jersey charged with the responsibility of seeing that "safe, adequate, and proper utility services are provided at reasonable rates for customers in New Jersey.  and from 1986 to 1990, he was active in public and municipal finance as an attorney and investment banker.

Recently, Weiner was an invited participant at the White House Conference on Global Climate Action, the U.S. Department of Energy/National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners National Electricity Forum and the White House Conference on Environmental Technology.

Weiner is a member of the executive committee of the DOE Commercialization Ventures Advisory Committee, a member of the board of trustees board of trustees Politics The posse of thugs who oversee an institution's administration.
