Former Imperial Sugar Officer and Renowned Sugar Authority Dies.SUGAR LAND, Texas -- With deepest regret, Imperial Sugar (Nasdaq:IPSU IPSU Indigenous Professional Support Unit (Australia) ) announced the passing of Benjamin Alexander Oxnard, Jr., who retired from Imperial in 2002. The Oxnard family involvement in the sugar industry dates back to the mid-1700s. Mr. Oxnard's grandfather was one of the founders of Savannah Savannah, city, United States Savannah, city (1990 pop. 137,560), seat of Chatham co., SE Ga., a port of entry on the Savannah River near its mouth; inc. 1789. Foods and Industries in Savannah, GA in 1917, a company that Imperial acquired in 1997 and which remains one of the most vital parts of the consolidated operation. Born in Savannah and raised in Denver, CO, Mr. Oxnard spent his entire career in the sugar industry and was well known as one of the industry's most knowledgeable leaders. His career has been unique in that he was involved in both the technical and management sides of the cane sugar cane sugar: see sucrose. industry and also had an outstanding career as a sugar trader. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of Imperial's Savannah Foods and Industries at the time of his retirement. Mr. Oxnard was an international authority on the sugar trade and was on many occasions called upon to address industry meetings throughout the world. He was recipient of the Dyer Memorial Award and named the Sugar Man of the Year (2004) at a ceremony this past May in New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of . Mr. Oxnard was also a leader in his community and served as president and board member of the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, president and board member of the Savannah Symphony Society, and an officer of the United Way of the Coastal Empire. He was a member of the Savannah Benevolent Society The Benevolent Society is Australia’s oldest charity, although it now prefers to regard itself as a ‘’social enterprise’’. It was founded as the Benevolent Society of New South Wales and the Historic Savannah Foundation. He also served on the Boards of St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and the Atlantic Armstrong University Foundation. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth McCafferty Oxnard, three sons and seven grandchildren GRANDCHILDREN, domestic relations. The children of one's children.
