Former Ducks show off for scouts.Byline: Rob Moseley The Register-Guard The marketing of recent Oregon football players to NFL NFL abbr. National Football League NFL (US) n abbr (= National Football League) → Fußball-Nationalliga teams continued Thursday, with different Ducks using different strategies to sell themselves at the second of this year's three on-campus pro timing days. Igor Olshansky Igor Olshansky (E-gor ol-SHAN-ski, born May 3, 1982 in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) is a football defensive end for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL. Early years Igor moved from Ukraine to San Francisco when he was 9 years old. He attended St. , already having proven himself worthy of a first-day choice in next month's NFL draft The NFL Draft (officially the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting[1]) is an annual sports draft in which National Football League (NFL) teams take turns, through seven rounds[2] , was in the Moshofksy Center solely for the benefit of those teams that will consider drafting a defensive tackle that high. Samie Parker Samie Jabar Parker (born March 25, 1981 in Long Beach, California) is an National Football League wide receiver currently playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School. , on the other hand, was hoping every one of the 50-odd scouts representing about 20 teams was watching him run and catch passes as he attempts to climb up from sure second-day status to late in the first. The draft will be held April 24-25, with the first three rounds held that Saturday and the next four on Sunday. Parker is hoping his name is called that first day, when Olshansky also is expected to be picked. Those two were joined Thursday by Quinn Dorsey, Jason Fife Jason Fife is an American football quarterback in the National Football League for the New Orleans Saints. Olshansky, Parker and Siavii - none of whom worked out at last week's timing day - were the featured attractions Thursday for a group of NFL personnel that included Kansas City Chiefs Olshansky established himself as a first-day pick at the NFL draft combine in Indianapolis in February, and said he is now working out specifically for those teams that have said they might pick him. He bench-pressed 225 pounds 41 times at the combine, one less than the top performer in Indianapolis, and Thursday he improved his mark to 43 repetitions. Olshansky said the rest of his predraft workouts will likely be for individual teams. "This was my pro day; this is my time to come back to Oregon," Olshansky said. "After this, a team's got to request me." Olshansky said teams have told him "that I'm doing well. That I should be happy in the next couple months." For Olshansky, that would mean being picked in those first three rounds. "I'll be in the first day," he said. "First day is quite an accomplishment." Parker, meanwhile, is still recovering from a lingering ankle injury, as well as the stigma of being a receiver who stands only 5-feet-11. His biggest asset in the NFL will be speed, and Thursday he improved his 40-yard dash time just a hair from his performance at the combine. In Indianapolis he was timed by various scouts in the low 4.3-second range. Thursday, at least one scout had Parker timed in 4.28. "I felt fast today," Parker said. "I can't say the ankle contributed to anything." Parker injured his left ankle twice in the fall, then hurt it again in the East-West Shrine game The East-West Shrine Game is an annual post-season college football all-star game played each January since 1925. The game is sponsored by the fraternal group Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and the net proceeds are earmarked to some of the Shrine's charitable works, most notably the . He said the only lingering effect is some soreness after workouts. Parker said he's looking forward to individual workouts for teams, when they can determine how they intend to use him - as a slot receiver, or even a kick returner - and when Parker can show that the recent Randy Moss-influenced trend of receivers needing to stand 6-3 or taller is unnecessary. "I'm going to be selling myself all the way to draft day," he said. |
