Forever young?

I like this boy, but he's two years younger than I am! Shouldn't I be crushing on someone more my own age?

When someone is 24 and her crush is 22, the age difference isn't so much of a deal. If you're younger, though, it can be a big contrast. Think about how much a girl changes from ages 11 to 13. Since guys mature slower, it's possible your crush might not be up to your level. That said, it'd be a shame to pass on a guy who's interesting, smart and cute just because of a number. There's certainly nothing wrong with liking a younger dude--just be sure he doesn't think all girls have cooties!

My parents are way overprotective! They won't even let me walk to my friend's house right down the street! I got grounded for two months because I ate something I'm allergic to. And if I want to go biking, I have to ride in front of my house. I don't know what to do.

Even though your parents just want to protect what's precious to them (you), their overbearing ways can cause you to feel like a prisoner. So try to reach some compromises. Maybe they'll let you walk to your friend's house if you promise to call once you arrive safely. Help them understand that their rules and regulations are a bit severe. As you're asking for extra freedom, be willing to show them that you're becoming more responsible. And part of that means avoiding foods you know you're allergic to.

I always envied girls who could sashay into a crowd and have everyone's attention. So bolster your confidence by starting in small groups and working your way up. Join the debate club or a theater workshop--something that challenges you to wow a crowd. Give yourself a daily pep talk to put your friendliest self forward. Before long, your crush and classmates will get a glimpse of your outgoing side.

Is it wrong to have a crush for more than a year, even though it has never really worked out?
