Forever young?

I like this boy, but he's two years younger than I am! Shouldn't I be crushing on someone more my own age?

When someone is 24 and her crush is 22, the age difference isn't so much of a deal. If you're younger, though, it can be a big contrast. Think about how much a girl changes from ages 11 to 13. Since guys mature slower, it's possible your crush might not be up to your level. That said, it'd be a shame to pass on a guy who's interesting, smart and cute just because of a number. There's certainly nothing wrong with liking a younger dude--just be sure he doesn't think all girls have cooties Cooties is a slang word in American English, used by children, referring to a fictional disease. Cooties are believed to be a highly contagious disease or condition, generally carried by members of the opposite gender. !

ways can cause you to feel like a prisoner. So try to reach some compromises. Maybe they'll let you walk to your friend's house if you promise to call once you arrive safely. Help them understand that their rules and regulations are a bit severe. As you're asking for extra freedom, be willing to show them that you're becoming more responsible. And part of that means avoiding foods you know you're allergic to.

I am really quiet at school. Only my close friends know me. My crush probably doesn't see that I can be really fun and not so serious. I'm not boring--I'm just that way in school, do you have any suggestions for letting my true personality shine?

I always envied girls who could sashay into a crowd and have everyone's attention. But then I realized they weren't necessarily the wittiest girls--they were the ones with the gumption to put themselves out there. So bolster your confidence by starting in small groups and working your way up. Join the debate club or a theater workshop--something that challenges you to wow a crowd. Give yourself a daily pep talk to put your friendliest self forward. Before long, your crush and classmates Classmates can refer to either:

  • Classmates (film), a 2006 Malayalam blockbuster directed by Lal Jose, starring Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Indragith, Sunil, Jagathy, Kavya Madhavan, Balachandra Menon, ...
will get a glimpse of your outgoing side.

Is it wrong to have a crush for more than a year, even though it has never really worked out?

There's rarely a right or wrong when it comes to feelings. Who knows? Maybe in a month, you and the crush will slam into each other in the hall and realize you're meant for each other. But it's frustrating frus·trate

to harbor an unreciprocated crush. So why focus on one guy? By crushing on him for so long, you may have overlooked another cutie--one who's digging on you. This would be a good time to open your eyes to all the other options out there. Someone else could work out for you--and then you'll be surprised at how quickly the first crush can be erased e·rase
