Forest Lawn-Glendale Hosts 90th Anniversary Memorial Day Ceremony; Features Caisson March and Wreath Laying Ceremony Led by Civil War Re-Enactors.


GLENDALE, Calif. -- Forest Lawn Forest Lawn is the name of a number of different places:

Forest Lawn is a generic name for many cemeteries in the United States. The majority of these are old, elaborate cemeteries that historically had a secondary use as a public park:
(R)-Glendale began a long tradition of Memorial Day ceremonies in 1915, fifty years after the end of the Civil War. Many Civil War Veterans made their way to California, and found their final resting place at Forest Lawn-Glendale. Today, Forest Lawn Memorial-Park - Glendale announced that its 90th Anniversary Memorial Day event will be an all-new, unique and very moving tribute, celebrating all American Patriots. Civil War re-enactors from the 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Company K will serve as color guards, present the wreath-laying ceremony and provide a traditional musket musket: see small arms.

 salute. The 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Company K is well-known and highly regarded for their authentic portrayal of the service and sacrifices endured during the Civil War.

The program begins at 1:00 p.m. Participants will meet at the memorial-park's front gates where the ceremony will begin with a horse-drawn caisson caisson (kā`sən, –sŏn) [Fr.,=big box], in engineering, a chamber, usually of steel but sometimes of wood or reinforced concrete, used in the construction of foundations or piers in or near a body of water. There are several types.  procession - Homeward Bound bound for home; going homeward; as, the homeward bound fleet s>.

, symbolizing and honoring all American Patriots who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country - that will proceed into one of the oldest sections of the memorial park. The procession will be led in this Memorial March by Harry Farrar, Pipe Major and the Scottish Pipes and Drums to the burial site of a Civil War soldier. The ceremony at the site includes the Pledge of Allegiance Pledge of Allegiance, in full, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, oath that proclaims loyalty to the United States. and its national symbol. , the National Anthem, and the President's Memorial Day Proclamation, followed by the wreath-laying and musket salute. Taps will be performed by 15-year-old Travis Combs, bugler of the 4th U.S. Company.

The Forest Lawn-Glendale ceremony is free and open to the public. Refreshments, including ice cream will be provided, as well as special gifts for all attendees.
