Forest Lawn To Dedicate The Plaza of Mesoamerican Heritage; Permanent Outdoor Exhibit During Hispanic Heritage Month.
What: Dedication of the Plaza of Mesoamerican History, a
permanent outdoor interpretive exhibit of stone sculpture
at Forest Lawn(R)-Hollywood Hills. The dedication will be
hosted by Denise Valdez, weekend anchor for KNBC TV.
This exhibit of 20 artifacts includes human portraits,
mythological figures, architectural elements, and
hieroglyphic relief panels that details the pre-European
history of what is now Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El
Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Newly
installed interpretive signage maps the geography of this
region; illustrates a timeline from the Olmecs
(1500 BC - 300 BC) to the Aztecs (AD 1325 - AD 1521);
and discusses the cultural, artistic, and religious
roots of highly advanced ancient cultures, including the
Olmec, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, Toltec, Maya, Aztec,
Totonac, and Huastec. All the artifacts are
reproductions created in stone and concrete by artisans
in Mexico, Italy, and the United States.
