Forest Electric wins award.


Forest Electric Corp. has been named a recipient of the 2004 Vista Award for the best healthcare engineering project in 2004.

The award, which is given annually by the American Society of Healthcare Engineering of the American Hospital Association American Hospital Association (AHA),
n.pr a nonprofit national organization of individuals, institutions, and organizations engaged in direct patient care. The association works to promote the improvement of health care services.
 and the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health, recognized Forest for their electrical contracting expertise at the new high performance central utility plant at the Long Island Jewish Hospital campus in New Hyde Park New Hyde Park, village (1990 pop. 9,728), Nassau co., SE N.Y., on Long Island; inc. 1927. It is a residential community with some manufacturing and truck farms. Nearby is the uninc. town of North New Hyde Park (1990 pop. 14,359). .

Forest received the award in conjunction with Flack + Kurtz, the mechanical/electrical engineer.

Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Forest Electric, The LIJH LIJH Long Island Jewish Hospital  project was a complex effort that required highly specialized electrical expertise, project management and scheduling for the installation of new state-of-the-art and energy efficient technologies."

The hospital was awarded a $2.4 million grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a public benefit corporation that was created by the New York State Legislature in 1975. The purpose of the NYSERDA is to provide funding for the research of energy development.  because of the project's sophisticated energy conservation technologies.

The project involved the design and construction of a new plant that would provide expanded central utilities as the hospital doubled in size. The $24 million plant consisted of new steam boilers and new central chilled water equipment.
