"Our mission is to ensure the beneficial implementation of nanotechnology. We focus on nanotechnology that is good for people and good for the planet. Our prizes are given to those individuals whose recent efforts place us closer to that goal," said Christine Peterson, Co-Founder and Vice President of Public Policy at Foresight Nanotech Institute. "We are pleased to announce our prize winners at nanoTX '06 this year and anticipate that this year's nominations will continue to illustrate rapid progress toward advanced nanotechnology and productive nanosystems."

Established in 1993, these prizes are given to researchers whose recent work has most advanced the achievement of Feynman's goal for nanotechnology: the construction of atomically-precise products through the use of molecular machine systems.

This prize was created to encourage responsible coverage of molecular nanotechnology as a means for engaging the public in dialogue leading to improved public policy on this important issue. This prize was established in 2000 and is generously underwritten by the law firm Millstein & Taylor, PC.

The Foresight Distinguished Student Award was established in 1997 and is given to a college undergraduate or graduate student whose work is notable in the field of nanotechnology. This award highlights the winning student's research and underwrites the student's travel to the award conference. This prize is generously supported by Dr. James Ellenbogen, Ravi Pandya, and James Von Ehr, III.
