:SBC) today announced that the Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has awarded the telecommunications company See telecom company.  its prestigious "Q1" status for supplier excellence. This marks the first time that Ford has presented this award to a telecommunications company.

Ford's Q1 Award was presented in recognition of a nearly 20-year relationship with the SBC family of companies. Most recently, Ford tapped SBC companies in September 2004 to design, implement and manage Internet Protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.

To receive Q1 certification, Ford evaluated SBC's performance in three areas: regulated services, managed services An umbrella term for third-party monitoring and maintaining of computers, networks and software. The actual equipment may be inhouse or at the third-party's facilities, but the "managed" implies an ongoing effort; for example, making sure the equipment is running at a certain quality  and deregulated products. The evaluation included service provisioning, operation, performance and billing. In the case of SBC companies, smooth execution of an extensive volume of work across the country was cited as a major reason for the recognition.

The award -- along with a Q1 plaque and flag -- was presented to the SBC family of companies by Ford Chief Information Officer Marv Adams and Purchasing Manager Dana Zugay. The Q1 flag will fly over SBC facilities in Michigan.
