What: Speaking at a panel discussion today at Internet2, Joel D'Ambrosia of Force10 Networks discussed industry progress regarding the development of 100 Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub. . Speaking on a panel titled, "Industry Update on 100 Gbps Optical Networking," D'Ambrosia discussed various efforts underway to support the development and deployment of 100 Gigabit Ethernet and how these efforts would carry forward into future development efforts, including the development of the next rate of Ethernet. The panel included representatives from ADVA ADVA American Deaf Volleyball Association

, Ciena, Cisco, Infinera and Nortel.
