) and a leader in embedded computing, today announced the addition of two new single board computers (SBCs) to its Flexor(tm) PICMG PCI/ISA family of products. The SBCs are targeted at telecommunications, transportation, manufacturing, medical and satellite broadcast applications.

The Flexor IP3S370/600 is a Pentium(r) III processor-based SBC for industrial and embedded computing applications with high-performance requirements such as real-time databases, Internet kiosks, vision systems and graphics-intensive man-machine interfaces.

The Flexor ICS (1) (Internet Connection Sharing) A Windows feature that enables two or more computers to share one Internet connection. First introduced in Windows 98 Second Edition, sharing is accomplished with network address translation (NAT), which is the common method. 370/566 is a Celeron(r) processor-based SBC for applications where value coupled with performance is a requirement, including remote telemetry, CNC or PLC controllers, and multi-axis controllers in Medical MRI 1.  or X-ray systems.

Both products comply with the PICMG PCI/ISA passive backplane standard to provide the flexibility and modularity necessary to configure products to suit changing needs and to lower development and product lifetime costs.

"These SBCs are key additions to the Force Flexor PCI/ISA product family and reflect the purpose of the product line in providing flexible and scalable systems at a lower cost with long product lifetimes," said Graham McKenzie, systems marketing manager for Force Computers. "As a charter member of the Intel Applied Computing Platform Program, Force is following Intel's embedded roadmap to ensure customers have longevity of design availability coupled with the advantages of the Intel architecture--a wide range of stable operating systems and applications, development tools for new applications, drivers and supporting software for a wide range of PCI/ISA products."

The Flexor IP3S370/600 includes the Pentium III FC-PGA processor running at 600 MHz. The Flexor ICS370/566 uses a Celeron processor at 566MHz. Both SBCs feature their Intel processors in a socket 370 design and with the Intel 440BX chipset. On-board memory is available in 64 MByte to 768 MByte configurations. Essential on-board features included are UIDE, serial ports, USB USB

Pricing and availability

Backed by the high-quality, volume manufacturing strength of Force's parent company, Solectron, the Flexor ICS370/566 product list price starts at US$999 and the Flexor IP3S370/600 product list price starts at US$1,500. These prices are for single units, with competitive pricing for volume purchases. Both products will ship in August under Force's Early Access Unit (EAU) program, and volume shipments are scheduled for Q4 of 2000.

The Flexor PICMG PCI/ISA Family

Based on PICMG PCI/ISA standard compliant passive backplane technology, the Flexor product family provides a range of processors, backplanes and enclosures, which combine to create platforms that are matched to customer requirements. The PICMG passive backplane technology offers the advantages of low-cost peripherals and I/O cards from the PC market, but with flexibility and reliability that standard PCs cannot match. When combined with Force's commitment to quality and longevity, the Flexor product family offers the optimum solution for industrial and embedded computing requirements.

Intel Applied Computing Platform Provider Program

Force is a charter member of Intel's Applied Computing Platform Provider program. Intel Applied Computing Platform Providers is a licensed program consisting of third-party board vendors who meet Intel's strict criteria for quality assurance, manufacturing capacity, design capability, tools and support.
