For the first time in quite a while, it's the season of the musical.Byline: FRED CRAFTS The Register-Guard If the actors you run into these days are singing a happy tune, maybe it's because they are in one the many local musicals getting ready for their summer openings. Altogether, seven musicals are currently being rehearsed for summer showings. That's welcome news to musical comedy aficionados who haven't had all that much to choose from locally since the Eugene Festival of Musical Theatre quit doing its summer extravaganzas in 1994. Now, all of a sudden, it seems like everybody's doing musicals- well, at least Actors Cabaret cabaret Restaurant that serves liquor and offers light musical entertainment. This summer, the ACE crew has come up with a sure-fire warm weather winner, the Oregon premiere of the recent Broadway mega-hit "Jekyll & Hyde." Although a national touring company production played here two seasons ago, the amateur production rights were just released. Actors Cabaret will be one of the first community companies in the country to do the show. The busy producers also are preparing a youth production of "Bugsy Malone, Jr." After many dark summers, the lights will be on again at Lane Community College, which once feasted on a long run of summer productions directed by Ed Ragozzino. The college's large main stage hasn't had a musical on it since "A Chorus Line" in May 1995, and it hasn't been used for a summer musical since "Snoopy Snoopy world’s most famous beagle.
